Sugoi's Icon blends a stretchy waterproof fabric with a cut that’s close to the body without being restrictive.
The 2.5-ply ‘Majic’ shell fabric has a four-way stretch property, which helps with fit and articulation. Despite a cut that’s not overly generous, there’s minimal tightness across the shoulders. The cut isn’t roadie tight, but without excess fabric there’s no flapping in the wind going on. Arm length is also good, and the cuffs fit nicely over gloves.
A drop down panel at the back is low enough to fall below the saddle, cutting down splashes onto your shorts. It can be folded away and is neatly held by magnets. There’s also a detachable hood that can be tightened with elastic drawcords.
Under each arm is a generous, easily opened and closed vent, with a little tag halfway along to prevent it flapping open too much. This added ventilation is welcome, as the Majic fabric isn’t the most breathable, certainly compared with Gore-Tex or Polartec NeoShell. Without a liner, the jacket is better worn over long-sleeved base layers to prevent that claggy feeling.
There are four pockets on the back, one on the chest and two handwarmer pockets. The chest pocket has a headphone port and, like the main zip and vents, comes with a waterproof zip. The jacket is nice and light, and packs down into its own pocket, so can easily be chucked into your pack.
