Coming in a tiny stuff sack that can be squashed into a 4in x 4in space in your riding pack, or attached to your person via a Velcro strap, the Singletrack jacket from Montane is brilliant for riding all year round.
It’s made from a mix of Pertex Microlight and Pertex 4 fabrics, which are incredibly thin but seem to hold up well against snagging on foliage. The cut is slim – long arms, snug armpits and a close neck with a nice soft lining at the front.
There’s plenty of reflective detail and the Lycra-bound hem and cuffs, along with the slim cut, stop the Singletrack ballooning in the wind like many other lightweight jackets.
Although not fully waterproof, it’s as near as you can get with such a lightweight jacket and has seen us through some horrendous downpours with a smile on our faces. It also has the advantage of drying out quickly.
Despite being super-thin, it’s great for all-day rides where the wind can chill you through, making it a very robust addition to your riding wardrobe. We used it a lot more than we thought we would as it’s a great additional layer.
