Our review
High performance features in a quietly styled package that impresses with its careful detail

The Anabatic, with its uncomplicated lines was the surprise of the test. We had expected it to wear like an all-purpose waterproof (which it is), but found it very good indeed on the bike. There were two key features that blew us away. First, the cut of the sleeves and shoulders, which allows maximum movement through the arms without the body shifting around (and causing wet or cold spots) at all. Second, the hood – it fits over a helmet and once there doesn’t hamper your vision or feel restrictive. It doesn’t fold away though.

Add in features such as easy-to-grab zip pulls, and external hanger, small pack size and waterproof zips and you’ll understand why we were smitten. Finisterre is known for its commitment to ethical and low-impact approach to fabrics, and the Anabatic is made from something called C-Shell, which is part recycled and 100% recyclable. It worked well for us in the squalls and heavy showers of a late summer in the hills of Wales, and we found it more suited to cooler weathers in terms of breathability.
