Expensive but supremely comfortable and cool enough semi-aero helmet

Kask’s Vertigo Tri puts the prototype technology that took Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish to their victories last year into a fast but super-comfortable race lid.

The standard Vertigo has 24 vents, but the microshell of the Tri covers the centre and top vents for smoother airflow and less drag. Unsurprisingly, ventilation is dramatically reduced and it soon gets hot and steamy at slower speeds and higher intensities.

The remaining two temple, and six rear vents mean it’s breezy enough at high speeds though, and much cooler than a full aero shell. It’s also much lighter at only 303g for a large.

You need to pre-loosen the deep, articulated cradle to get it on quick in transition, but once tight, the raw gel pads keep it very secure without excess pressure. The ‘3D Dry’ pads minimise sweat lingering on skin and are easily washable. Italian-made quality doesn’t come cheap though.
