Casco is relatively new to this country, but it's certainly got some innovative ideas. The Viper MX is its convertible half head/full face freeride lid, using an extensively vented, organically moulded upper shell for an impressively breezy fi t that still vents well at slow speeds.
The big visor shields glare or rain well too, although two small side holes can cause irritating gaps in the protection. Impact protection is something Casco pride themselves on though, and as well as the very solid feeling 'click on' chinguard, the helmet also has a tubular aluminium 'roll bar running from front to rear. It certainly feels a lot more protective than the MET Parachute, despite being significantly lighter and much easier to whip the chin on and off.
So far so good, but it was the only helmet on test we had to really work to make fit, thanks to a very shallow cradle and mesh 'hammock' over your scalp. To get a good cradle fit below the occipital lobe (lump at back of skull) we had to actually pull the fixers out of the shell entirely. The amount of cloth also makes it a sweat hoarder, and the fixtures will loosen
