There’s a slight mismatch here, with Giant’s excellent TCR frame paired with wheels that fail to do it justice. Handling is reassuring and predictable, and it’s great on descents, but the heavyish hoop and tyre combination makes climbing harder than on many of its rivals.
It's good to see that the mix of Shimano 105 and Ultegra includes the latter’s excellent chainset, and shifting was flawless. The TCR is competent, assured, fast, accelerates ruthlessly well on the flat and offers no nasty surprises, but the consensus among our Bike of the Year testers is that it lacked a bit of zing and sparkle that its striking looks suggested.
