Niterider’s Pro 1800 Race has a bulky battery pack, but it’s a tough and user-friendly broad-beam special on the trail. The three-LED cluster in the headlamp gives broad and even coverage. That means punch and detail isn’t as good as some, but it’s brilliant for a sense of context or when riding twisty technical trails without a helmet light.
The big offset nylon bracket with built-in hinge and angle ratchet is definitely overkill, as is the helmet mount, but both give loads of easy adjustability. The big plastic battery can be awkward to fit on curvier frames and run time is OK rather than outstanding. The four-LED status bar on the head unit and a good jump from maximum to medium power make battery rationing easy.
