Our review
Not cheap, but tough, reliable and light, with a very powerful and confidence-enhancing beam

Light & Motion have refined the design and increased the power of their Seca 1700 lamp to make it an impressively versatile high performance unit, for those who can afford it.

The head unit is unchanged, but the new mount straps it lower and more securely to the bar to keep it locked on target. It also gets a new reflector around its twin rows of three LEDs. The result is a very usable beam with plenty of peripheral coverage, decent long-range illumination and loads of ‘right in front’ light for low-speed techy work.

The large, easy-to-hit top button lets you flick between power settings to extend already reasonable life from the small, hardshell battery. You also get a helmet mount, an extension cable and a belt clip for versatility, and if you need more run time you can opt for the double-capacity enduro version.

As you’d hope for a dive lights specialist, waterproofing is excellent with massive, totally sealed plugs on the battery lead junction. Reliability is excellent and running temperatures are now much cooler, despite the increased power.
