Hope does two single LED lights, the self contained, AA battery driven ‘1’ and the separate battery and mini head unit R1 here. The miniature head unit and multi adjustable metal mount are meticulously machined in Hope’s northern English factory.
The offset clamp only fits round bars, but it puts the lamp centrally ahead of the stem, which looks particularly neat and helps dodge cables. A helmet mount and off-bike head strap are also included.
It's low powered for the price at 500 actual lumens, and despite a tightly focused beam detail and distant reach are only adequate. There are two different three-power level menus to choose from though and run time in either is epic.
You’ve also got a choice of plain plastic battery or machined metal cased, green bumper ended battery that includes a push button charge/remaining run time indicator.
Above and beyond the call of duty factory direct back up from Hope is legendary too and there’s a much more powerful but similarly superbly made R4 version for £200 / US$373.88 / AU$449.95 too.
The Hope R1 is currently unavailable in Australia, but is expected to be part of the 2015 range.
