Our review
Cateye's versatile Volt 700 is small in size but big on practical performance

Japanese bike electronics pioneer Cateye has returned to form with its latest Volt light range. The slim torpedo design uses a single LED in the metal front end with side cut outs for a sliver of extra traffic visibility.

The beam has a very tight focus for reasonable – if not excessive – reach and good middle distance fill that works great in most riding situations. Peripheral illumination is a bit vague if you're really cracking on or negotiating twisty lanes, but it was still praised as one of the most balanced light outputs by our test team.

Three power levels then two flash modes help extend adequate battery life but there's no battery indicator light apart from a low power warning. The double click on with inset push button stops accidental starting, in bags for instance. but it can be awkward to operate with thick winter gloves. Cateye reliability is typically excellent though and the band style mount can be persuaded to fit most slim aero bars as well as round ones.
