At just 85mm long and 24mm in diameter, the Replay XD 1080 Mini is easy to miss. But it packs quite a punch, offering Full HD filming at a relatively low price.
Simplicity is the trade-off for the fact this camera will set you back considerably less than top-end action cameras from the likes of GoPro, Contour, Drift and Sony. The only adjustments are two small switches to turn the internal microphone on or off and switch between 1,080p (Full HD) and 720p (HD) quality. The XD can only film at 30 frames per second in 1,080p mode, so it’s not great for slow-motion footage. That ups to 60fps in 720p mode. The sound quality from the internal mic didn’t blow us away either. The picture quality is good in all but very low light though, and the bullet-shaped body is light and barely noticeable on a helmet.
Possibly the best thing about the XD is the inclusion of four mounts, which really boost its creative possibilities straight out of the box without demanding more of your cash. A neatly machined cam lever locks the camera in position once you’ve positioned the socket, so there shouldn’t be any shaking to ruin your sweet edit.
