Looking at their all-new Travoy trailer system, it would seem that Burley are back with a vengeance. It’s an absolute joy to use, has some fantastic features and an impressive load capacity of 27.2kg (60lb). On the bike it’s stable and, surprisingly, doesn’t affect the handling much at all, even when fully loaded.
Off the bike it’s well balanced, and the handle you twist to fold down the bike mount section also serves as a great handle with which to pull the trailer along. The standard tote bag it comes with is roomy and quite stable, and allows you to remove the wheels and fold the whole trailer up neatly inside it.
There are a couple of niggles, though. For starters there’s no safety leash, so should it become detached from the bike it could cause havoc for any oncoming traffic. Also, the hitch mounting only fits on the seatpost (all sizes up to 31.6mm, although longer bolts would extend this).
You’ll need roughly 48cm from your seatpost to the back of your rack, depending on the rack’s height. This could present a problem for bikes that have long rear ends, and also deprives you of the option of being able to have the Travoy and a child seat attached at the same time.
Those complaints aside, this is a great trailer with very little overhang behind you, a mounting system that makes it virtually impossible to tip over, and it works well both on and off the bike.
