Our review
A lightweight option for an inner tube, but there’s not much space for anything else

Pros:

Lightweight; doesn’t interfere with pedalling

Cons:

Limited application; takes up a lot of frame real estate; struggles to hold more than a tube

The Topeak Ninja Master+ Free Strappack is part of Topeak’s Ninja series, a selection of products designed to keep items off your person and on your bike.

This £12.99 addition to the range mounts underneath a Ninja water bottle cage, or can be attached to the frame using the included frame mount or cable ties.

Made from engineering-grade polymer with a nylon strap, it’s designed to hold an inner tube with a multi-tool or CO2 canister. Topeak states it’s not compatible with larger fat bike inner tubes.

In the box, you'll find the Strappack platform with hook and loop strap, an attachment for a compatible Ninja bottle cage, two cable ties, a frame mount and all the necessary bolts. My test sample weighed 33g with a Ninja cage mount attached.

Compatible Ninja water bottle cages are available in a range of styles and prices, starting at £7.99.

On-frame tool storage | How we tested

We tested these on-bike tool-storage solutions in a plethora of conditions, ranging from hot and dusty days to torrential rain and sloppy trails.

They were tested out on the trail in all conditions and ridden on different terrain to test their stability and suitability for different disciplines of mountain biking.

Where tools were included, they were tested trail-side, with the exception of tubeless-repair equipment and chain breakers, which were tested in the workshop.

Topeak Ninja Master+ Free Strappack performance

The Ninja Master+’s plastic platform provides a solid base for strapping on items such as an inner tube with a multi-tool or CO2 canister, although you will be hard-pushed to fit both securely.

I found the hook and loop strap was sturdy and stuck well to itself, even in bad conditions, allowing for a secure and tight fit for certain tubes. It works best with lightweight TPU tubes such as those made by Tubolito, securing them easily.

However, for larger standard tubes, especially 29ers, I found it only possible to cinch down one end, which increases the chance of losing the tube – although I never had one fall out during the test period.

Thanks to its size and lightweight construction, it doesn't interfere with pedalling or add significant weight to your bike. However, its looks might not be to everyone's taste.

It effectively keeps items away from the frame when used with a Ninja bottle cage, preventing any risk of frame rub.

Topeak’s frame mount makes fitting it to your bike easy. Equally, the supplied cable ties increase mounting options, but make transferring it between bikes tricky and can increase the potential for frame rub.

On some frame designs, you might not be able to access the second bottle cage mount with the Ninja Master+ installed, because the tube gets in the way.

The Ninja Master+ Free Strappack is a no-frills option that will carry a tube and won’t cost you a fortune.

I found larger tubes a little hard to strap down and it can’t carry any other items.
