Syncros’s original Tailor Cage combined a bottle cage with a two-part multi-tool contained in a slide-out drawer at its base, with the option to add a mini pump.
It was a good idea, but the design meant the cage stood proud of the bottle bosses a fair way, which could be an issue on smaller full-suspension frames, and I didn’t like the pump.
This latest IS version turns things on their side – literally. The mounting holes are on the ‘wings’ of the nylon cage rather than the bottom, allowing you to position it so you can access your bottle from whichever side you find easier, while also stopping the integrated tool from adding too much height. It looks odd at first but you soon get used to it.
You now get a single-piece tool with 19 functions – including 2/2.5/3/4/5/6/8mm Allen keys, T10/20/25/30 Torx heads and the all-important chain breaker – which clips directly into the base of the cage.
It’s nicely made and the bits are all a decent length. Cleverly, the 8mm adaptor sits on the pin of the chain tool, where it’s less easily lost than if attached to one of the Allen keys.
The pump is an improvement, with a short, smooth stroke and a pull-out head with a valve-lock that doubles as a dust cap. You can also buy the cage on its own or with a CO2 inflator.
I’ve had no issue with rattling tools or lost bottles, making this a great storage solution.
