The Stableloader is an industrial-looking telescoping metal bar that wedges in the back of a van or pick-up that’s between 46in and 72in wide inside. The bikes stand upright, with the forks clamped to quick-release mounts on the bar.
Two fork mounts are provided, but in a big enough vehicle with the bikes’ handlebars turned sideways you could fit up to five.
However, in a small van like a Citroen Berlingo, the space taken up by the folded seats means the bikes need their back ends arranging diagonally which cuts capacity to two – fewer than with no rack.
The bikes are as stable as the name suggests, so it’s a good option for bikes you don’t want getting banged about.
Thule’s Indoor 592 is more discreet in cars when not in use, whereas the capacity of the StableLoader is better for big vans.
