The Barracuda comes largely assembled, only the roof fixings need to be attached to the rest of the carrier, which is fairly easy. But mounting the Barracuda to your car’s roof bars needs some dexterity and patience; some longer screws would help hook on the clamp that secures the carrier to the roof bars.
This niggle aside, there’s no doubt the Mont Blanc is solidly constructed, and there are some pleasing design touches. We especially like the soft, squashy interior of the down-tube clamp, which allows a secure fit without putting excessive pressure on angular tubing. Locking the bike to the rack locks the rack to the bars.
The deep wheel channel helps hold the bike steady when fitting it, but can’t take tyres wider than 2.2in. If you own a road bike with odd-shaped tubing, it’s a good choice.
