Most boot-mounted racks have room for three bikes – which isn’t much good for a family of four. The Avenir Nevada is one of the few four-bike racks on the market, and will carry a maximum weight of 45kg.
The Nevada comes ready assembled, which is just as well since the instructions are a mess. The diagrams appear to jump from 2a to 13, and the written instructions are on a separate page.
Fortunately, fitting the Nevada to the car isn’t difficult. Six straps – two at the top, one at either side, and two at the bottom – hook over the boot to hold the rack in place. Once pulled tight they keep it very steady.
Rubber straps hold each bike in place, with a fabric strap to stop the bikes flopping around too much and scuffing the bikes’ paint.
