Previously we described Carradice's 5-litre Prima Maxi saddlepack as the daddy of seatpacks. It isn't: this is. It's essentially a deeper version of the same bag, but made out of rainproof cotton duck with a drawstring and buckle-over lid closure rather than a zip.
Capacity is a whopping 8 litres. There are two side pockets: one mesh, big enough for a water bottle or waterproof; the other zipped and big enough for tools or a phone. The underside of the bag has a splash panel, which is helpful if you're on your mudguardless road or mountain bike. There's a reflective rear strap and a mount for an LED light.
The strapping attachment system is like the Prima Maxi's: two straps go over the saddle rails, and there are Velcro straps for the seatpost and, if it will reach, the seatstays. If the saddle's too far up, the second strap goes around the seatpost, too. It's a slightly awkward fitting arrangement and this bigger bag sways around more than the Prima Maxi. It's an effective day bag, but I'd probably pare luggage down to fit a Prima Maxi or use a Carradice Barley saddlebag (£36.95) instead.
