The California Bicycle Museum is seeking an executive director to oversee the Davis, California non-profit's growth and partnership with the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame.
The University of California-Davis, a hotbed of cycling culture and community for decades, acquired the antique bicycle collection of the Pierce Miller family in Modesto, California, which spans over 100 years of bicycle evolution.
Included in the Museum's collection are race bikes from Eric Heiden (1986 Cinelli Laser time trial machine) and current Saxo Bank road pro Stuart O'Grady's Paris-Roubaix-winning Cervélo R3.
According to the Museum's board of directors, the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame (USBHOF) is a 20-year-old organisation dedicated to the preservation of the history of competitive bicycling, to recognition of the important personalities of America’s competitive bicycling, and to the advancement of bicycling in the United States.
The ideal candidate should be well qualified to lead an important national organisation. He/she should be able to provide a strategic vision for the organisation and the community-at-large, and be able to work with an enthusiastic board of directors toward implementation of that vision.
Day-to-day responsibilities include the operation of the USBHOF, including primary responsibility for overseeing the establishment of the new museum and headquarters. The successful candidate will be responsible to the USBHOF board of directors and external funding and support agencies, and will create and manage the organisation’s initial staffing plan and operating budget.
Immediate tasks include oversight of phased/planned renovations, planning the collection displays and interpretive materials, curatorial, cataloging and preservation activities. Development and implementation of fundraising strategies and overall programme management and administration are core on-going responsibilities.
