Trek’s latest Powerfly hardtail electric bike is a progression of its predecessor, with a refined frame and drive system and broad range of sizes and build options.

The aim of the Powerfly hardtail is to put “more people on bikes and on trails”, according to Trek. In other words, it is a bike that is capable and affordable — with eight price-points in five sizes and decent components packages across the range, that is hard to argue with.
Smaller sizes (XS and S) come with 27.5in wheels, while the rest (M, L, XL) feature 29in wheels. All models feature an “Alpha Platinum” aluminium frame with Boost 148 wheel spacing and 80 to 120mm travel suspension fork, depending on model.
A side-loading battery pack is designed to make it simple to take the battery out for charging (but it can still be charged on the bike), while Bosch’s newest Performance Line CX drive system is substantially smaller (and lighter) than before. Both of which help with the bike’s clean aesthetic.
The latest marketing jargon being bandied about by brands is “SUV bikes” (sports utility vehicles), and Trek has announced the Powerfly as “The SUV bike”.
Two Powerfly Sport models come equipped with a custom luggage rack and mudguards, making them a good option for anyone who would like to commute and use the bike for all-round transportation, but also to ride for leisure on light off-road terrain at the weekend.
The range also includes three women’s models with tailored build kits.
