The 10 teams taking part in this year's Halfords Tour Series have been announced, and there are three new additions to the line-up – Twenty3c-Orbea, Wilier-GoSelfDrive.com and Team UK Youth.
They join seven squads which took part in the urban road race series last year: defending champions Motorpoint Pro Cycling, runners-up Endura Racing and third-placed Rapha-Condor-Sharp, plus CyclePremier.com-Metaltek, Pendragon-Le Col-Colnago, Sigma Sport-Specialized and Team Raleigh.
“We're in our third year of the Halfords Tour Series and this looks to be the strongest line-up of teams and riders yet, which bodes well for the future of domestic cycling,” says series director Mick Bennett. “Spectators can look forward to seeing some of Britain’s top cyclists in action in their town or city during the series, including several who'll be in action at the London Olympics in 2012.”
Three other teams applied unsuccessfully for a spot in the Tour Series – Felt-Colbournes Racing Team, Team Corley Cycles and Team Herbalife Wheelbase. They'll all be offered the chance to ride up to two stages. Running alongside four rounds will be the Johnson Health Tech Women’s Grand Prix Series; teams are due to be announced soon.
