A high-end wheelset can break the bank, but thankfully Shimano has some new and more affordable wheel options on the way.
For 2018, three new road wheelsets are set to grace the range; two sets for the road and one "multi-surface" design.
WH-RS370-TL
Gravel specific components are becoming ever more prevalent and Shimano is adding to the options with this “multi-surface” wheelset.
A 19c, tubeless compatible rim is not the widest we’ve seen, but Shimano says it will be good for up to 38c tyres.
As you’d expect, it’s a disc-brake specific wheelset with Centrelock mounts. The hubs use Shimano’s 12mm E-Thru-axle standard and are compatible with 10- and 11-speed cassettes.
The wheelset weighs 1,900g and will set you back $254.99.
WH-RS300-CL
These new road wheels use low spoke-count hubs (16/20 hole) laced to 17c rims. Shimano claims improved aerodynamics and better torsional rigidity due to the bladed, straight-pull spokes.
They weigh in at 1,820g and will cost $229.99.
WH-RS100-CL
This will become Shimano’s most affordable 11-speed road wheelset. A 17c rim is on the narrower side by today’s standards and they’re not exactly light at 1,920g.
However at $134.99 these could be the perfect first upgrade for your road bike.
