Teschner Bikes have been building frames since 1990, when Australian Peter Teschner set himself up in a small shed in Byron Bay, New South Wales. They now have an exclusive deal with Inspired Cycling to distribute their frames and complete bikes in the UK and Ireland. Three frames are currently available: the SL9 and SL7 road models and the 703aero time trial chassis.
SL9
The SL9's frame and fork are made from Toray high-modulus 1K carbon fibre, using tube-to-tube construction. Claimed weights are 880-1,090g for the frame (depending on which of the six sizes you go for) and 340g for the fork. All Teschner frames come with a lifetime warranty.
A key feature of the SL9 is its pencil-thin seatstays, which are designed to be laterally stiff yet have a hint of vertical 'give' for a smoother ride. The frameset is available on its own or built up with SRAM Red/Force, Shimano Dura-Ace/Ultegra or, as with the model we saw, Campagnolo Super Record/Chorus. SL7
Made in the same way as the SL9 and sporting the same design and geometry, the SL7 is made from cheaper Toray high-modulus UD (unidirectional) carbon fibre, which brings the frameset price down to £1,699. It's slightly heavier too; the frame weighs 940-1,170g and the fork is 390g. Like its big brother, it's available in six sizes, from 52cm to 59cm. As well as the gloss red paintjob shown below, it's also available in gloss white.
703aero
Full internal cable routing and a rear brake tucked behind the bottom bracket are two of the key features of Teschner’s time trial frame. It's designed to be used on both the road and track, with an eccentric bottom bracket shell that can be adjusted to offer a 65mm BB drop for the road or 55mm for track racing. The 703aero is made from the same UD carbon fibre as the SL7 but with a monocoque construction, with claimed weights of 1,200–1,350g for the frame and 420g for the fork.
It can be bought as a frameset only (with brakes) for £2,699 or built up with SRAM's Red/Force or Shimano's Dura-Ace/Ultegra groupsets. It's available in four sizes, from 51cm to 57.5cm, and four paintjobs: red/black/white, black/green, white/green and black/white).
