Team Movistar’s Fernando Gaviria has been trying out some unreleased road shoes from the team’s sponsor, Fizik at the 2025 UAE Tour.

The shoes, which have also been worn by teammates Davide Cimolai and Einer Augusto Rubio Reyes at the race, appear to be an evolution of the brand’s top-spec Vento Infinito shoes.

However, it’s possible they also contain learnings from the brand’s more recently released Vento Stabilita shoes.

This might include the latest Dynamic Arch Support 2.0 system (or a development of it), which is said to improve support by pulling the bottom of the shoe up into the arch of the foot.

The two Boa dials look to pull on tabs attached to bands that run down the inside of the shoe, which may facilitate this action.

It would be unsurprising that riders such as Gaviria demand high levels of stability from their shoes to maximise power transfer.

The shoes also appear to have a knitted outer (the current Vento Stabilita has a polyurethane-laminate outer), made clear by its obvious tendency to discolour in the dusty desert race conditions.

Sadly, it doesn’t look as though Fizik has overcome that issue yet.

The foot entry hole also exhibits a smooth interface with the rider’s ankle – possibly a small nod to aerodynamics, but this could also help with comfort and fit.

There’s no obvious tongue in the traditional sense, or a pull tab on the rear of the shoe to help entry, but the interface could be the top of a liner, which would do the padding job of a tongue while helping to encompass the foot and allow freedom of movement while pedalling.

Of course, we expect these pro-level shoes to feature a full-carbon sole – both of Fizik’s R1 and R2 soles have a stiffness rating of 10 (out of 10) on Fizik’s arbitrary scale.

We asked Fizik’s press office for comment on the shoes, but it simply stated that an announcement will be shared in due course.
