Black Friday is an opportunity to grab a bargain on all of the best cycling kit – which can sometimes be prohibitively expensive.
The Specialized S-Works Torch Lace cycling shoes are an example of this. BikeRadar’s former staff writer Jack Evans awarded them a full five stars in his review, but there’s a catch: they cost £300 at full price.
But Sigma Sports is selling the shoes, in blue, for £135 in its Black Friday sale. That’s a 55 per cent reduction, and if you prefer black or white, they have 28 per cent off.
Why are these shoes so good?
In his review, Jack Evans said the Specialized S-Works Torch Lace was “a quite brilliant and surprisingly adaptable road cycling shoe”.
He praised the shoes for being comfortable and stiff while being extremely light, at 465g in an EU45.
Jack also said they’d make a great choice for racing – and he used them when racing the 2023 National Hill Climb championships.
While aerodynamics isn’t as important a factor when you’re heading uphill at a gruesome pace, the lace-up design of the shoe will likely cut through the wind a bit better than chunky Boa dials.
The laces mean they can take longer to get on, but that’s not a huge issue. And while you can’t adjust the fit as you ride, Jack found the shoes so comfortable that this wasn’t a problem.
He concluded that “having ridden them for thousands of kilometres, I can safely say their performance justifies this outlay”. And, with up to 55 per cent off, I think it’s safe to say that outlay is even more justified.
