Specialized Bicycles, in co-operation with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, have issued two product recalls.
The Morgan Hill, California company have recalled about 3,000 Roubaix Comp and Roubaix Pro bicycles from the 2004 model year due to faulty cable stops which can cause riders to lose control and fall.
The recalled bicycles were made in Taiwan and sold from September 2003 to August 2004 for between US$1,600 and $4,000. Riders should immediately stop using their bicycle and return it to a Specialized authorised dealer for an approved repair, at no cost.
2009 mountain bikes
Secondly, about 14,000 2009 Specialized mountain bikes are being recalled due to faulty handlebars. The company have received two reports of the bar breaking during use. In one case the rider was knocked out and injured their arm.
The following 2009 Specialized bicycles are affected by the recall: Cross Trail Comp, Myka HT Comp, Myka HT Elite, Rockhopper, Rockhopper Comp and Rockhopper Comp 29. The model number of the HL handlebar is ALR-13 NTFOV – you can find this underneath the right hand grip.
These bikes, manufactured in China, were sold between June 2008 and February 2009 for between US$640 and $1,050. Owners of these bikes should contact a Specialized dealer for a free replacement handlebar.
