Silca is reintroducing an old favorite that’s almost half the cost of the flagship SuperPista Ultimate pump. First introduced during the 1987 Giro d’Italia, the SuperPista features high-end, all-alloy construction and a lifetime warranty at a more attainable price point.
A large gauge at the base of the SuperPista
The SuperPista takes elements of the original design and updates them for modern cyclists. The 3in gauge is larger than the original and there’s a bleed valve on the push-on/pull-off Presta chuck that allows riders to fine tune air pressure.
We hope Silca will offer this Presta chuck with a bleed valve chuck for aftermarket purchase
Inside the pump are the technologies that ensure Silca’s pumps outlast the competition. The SuperPista pump slides on an alloy suspension fork piston with high-end Igus glide bushings. Rather than rely on a rubber plunger to move air, Silva uses a leather gasket. Why use leather for this critical element? Leather does a better job of withstanding changes in temperature as the pump heats up.
Other creature comforts include an ergonomic beech wood handle, similar to the one used on the SuperPista Ultimate, and a large aluminum base with elastomer feet that keep it from marring flooring.
One item that is not offered for this more affordable pump is a low-pressure gauge add-on like the one available for the SuperPista Ultimate.
The SuperPista is covered by Silca’s 25-year warranty, which covers repairing or replacing any hard part in the pump.
The SuperPista retails for $235 / £195. (Australian pricing is TBC.) First orders will begin shipping May 27.
