A new Sigma cycle computer, the Rox 10.0, is being trialled by Europcar riders at the 2013 Tour de France. The device has GPS functionality – a first for the brand – and uses ANT+ transmission, meaning it can display data from most power meters.
The German company confirmed that Pierre Rolland and Thomas Voeckler are the only two pros with the Rox 10.0, and that the unit – due to be formerly unveiled at Eurobike at the end of August and go on sale shortly after – is undergoing final testing this week.
When details of Sigma’s upcoming computers were released in April, the company said the Rox 10.0’s mapping functionality would be based on crowd-sourced OpenStreetMap data and that the 1.7in full-dot matrix LCD screen would display terrain by using contour lines and shading.
The device collects and stores a range of data such as GPS co-ordinates, altitude, speed, distance, cadence – even temperature – at one second intervals. Data can be downloaded to PCs for post-ride analysis and uploading to ride mapping sites. It also offers training tools such as preset heart rate zones.
Given the unit’s supposed functionality, it will likely compete with the Garmin Edge 510. For more information see www.sigmasport.com.
