Shimano rolled out six new 11-speed compatible wheels for its 2014 line, from the 1,110g C24 tubular wheelset to the more affordable RS31. And soon even the third-tier 105 group will have carbon fiber pedals like the Ultegra and Dura-Ace lines above.
While the Japanese component giant has not yet released full information, here are the details we know on the forthcoming wheels.
A claimed 1,100g for the set of C24 tubulars
Last May Shimano introduced six 11-speed wheelsets: the C24, C35, C50 and C75 Dura-Ace models, plus two mid-range options, the RS61 and RS21. However the C24 introduced then was a 1,375g carbon/alloy clincher. The new C24 tubular, however, will weigh a scant 1,110g for the set, Shimano claims. You can read more about the already introduced C series wheels here.
Further down the line, there will be three new WH-RS81 series wheelsets with Dura-Ace rims, in 24, 35 and 50mm carbon/alloy options. Finally, two more RS series wheels will join the RS21 and RS61 wheels: the RS31 is a 30mm aluminum clincher and the RS11 a durable aluminum clincher wheel.
All the Shimano 11-speed wheels are reverse-compatible with 8-, 9-, or 10-speed cassettes.
Even 105 will get a carbon fiber pedal body for 2014
As for the carbon 105 SPD-SL pedal, no information was released beyond the picture above.
Prices were not released for any of the 2014 gear.
