Scott has just announced the newest addition to its range of commuter bikes, the Silence and E-Silence. With these new bikes, Scott says it's trying to ‘silence your city.’
“Noise pollution, especially stemming from road traffic, railways and airports, is the second biggest environmental problem affecting the health of humans after air pollution,” the brand says.
Available in both assisted and unassisted versions, the Silence is equipped with an integrated front light that doubles as the faceplate for the stem and at the back there is also an integrated rear light at the top of the seat post.
Take a look at the new Scott E-Silence
Both the e-bike and standard non-assisted version are available with 10- and 11-speed Shimano drivetrains as well as belt driven Nuvinci and Shimano 8- and 11-speed Alfine internally geared hubs.
The assisted models utilise a Brose E-Technology system that is claimed to offer up to 150km of range and a max speed of 25kph. The German made Brose drive unit offers 250w of assistance and 90nm of torque, and is claimed to weigh 3.4kg — 200g heavier than the Shimano Steps drive unit, but it also offers nearly double the torque and the same assistance.
Running off a 590 watt-hour battery, the power source is integrated into the downtube and is removable for easy charging.
The brains of the operation is the Brose Display, which features a PMMA touchscreen lens that is claimed to work in the rain as well as when wearing gloves. It’s from here that the level of assist can be customised (Cruise 65 percent, Tour 165 percent and Sport 290 percent) and the walk-assist function controlled as well as the integrated lights.
As e-bikes, and commuters in general can be quite heavy, E-Silence is claimed to weigh between 23.9kg / 50.lbs and 23.7kg/ 52.35lbs depending on the model, while the non-assisted versions are claimed at 14.5kg / 33lbs and 15.6kg / 34.4lbs, again depending on the model. To stop all of this weight, the Silence and E-Silence bikes also get Shimano hydraulic disc brakes for all-weather fuss-free braking performance.
Completing the bikes are integrated fenders and racks, which Scott makes a point of saying are sturdy, as well as an integrated lock holder and a kickstand too. Pricing and availability are to be confirmed.
