Schwalbe has added a new tubeless tyre to its G-One line-up, with the Ultrabite entering the fold as the German’s company’s grippiest gravel tyre yet. And it’s available with tan sidewalls.

We spotted the Ultrabite at the recent launch of Schwalbe’s new Pro One tubeless road tyre.

The Ultrabite joins the Speed, All-Round and Bite in the G-One range. Each tyre offers progressively more grip, with the Ultrabite designed for 90 percent off-road use, according to Schwalbe's road and gravel tyre product manager, Peter Krischio.

“The Ultrabite is mainly for off-road use,” he says. “Or you can use it as a front tyre with the Bite or All-Round on the rear to reduce rolling resistance.”

The Ultrabite has an aggressive tread pattern with Lego-shaped lugs running across the centre of the tyre, as well as on the sidewalls, to offer improved grip over the existing Bite tyre, which was initially developed for Canyon’s Grail gravel bike.

Krischio says the Ultrabite utilises a new construction technique to improve puncture resistance. The same construction method has also been applied to the rest of Schwalbe’s G-One gravel and X-One cyclocross range for 2020.

The Ultrabite will initially be available in 700 x 40mm and 700 x 50mm sizes (Krischio says a 55mm version could follow), in Performance Line and Evolution Line versions.

The Performance Line tyre has tan sidewalls and uses an Addix compound combined with a Raceguard casing.

The premium Evolution Line rubber is only available in black but gets Schwalbe’s upgraded Addix Speedgrip compound and a Microskin carcass for the 40mm version, or Snakeskin carcass for the 50mm rubber.

Both the Evolution Line and Performance Line tyres are Tubeless Easy designs, recommended for use with 19 to 39mm rims (internal width).
