Britain’s Sam Pilgrim once again fended off strong competition to take the opening round of the Freeride Mountain Bike World Tour in Vienna.
Pilgrim, defending the title he’d won in 2010, beat off challenges from Frenchman Yannick Granieri and American Greg Watts to take home the third Vienna Air King of his career. Andreu Lacondeguy of Spain was another big winner of the weekend, bagging the Panasonic Best Trick competition with a clean double backflip.
The sixth edition of the Vienna Air King saw around 70 riders from 15 countries contend in the city square. It was held as part of the ARGUS Bike Festival, which attracted over 120,000 visitors across the weekend.
Now in its second year, the tour – won last year by American Cameron Zink – fits in 21 events across Europe and North America and concludes in Nuremberg, Germany on 9-10 September. Check out the video below for highlights from the tour opener.
