Rotor has announced its new INspider ROAD power meter spider.

The INspider ROAD builds upon the existing INspider power meter platform, retaining its modular and adaptable design but offering a lighter weight, improved battery life and wider frame compatibility.

At only 12mm thick, the INspider ROAD power meter spider is half the thickness of its predecessor, affording it a cleaner look on the bike and reducing its weight from 149g to 128g.

In addition, Rotor says the new INspider ROAD is compatible with more bottom brackets, including BB386 and T47 standards, while it retains compatibility with both 24mm and 30mm axles.

Combined with its slimmer profile, this “ensures it fits all frames”, according to the Spanish brand.

As with all power meter spiders, the INspider ROAD captures power data from both legs at a rate of 120Hz, to a claimed accuracy of +/- 1.5 per cent.

Unlike Rotor’s 2INpower SL crankset, which combines two separate power meters to measure the effort produced by each leg independently, the INspider ROAD can only estimate left/right power balance.

As before, the Rotor INspider ROAD power meter uses a 4x110 bolt circle diameter, making it compatible with a wide range of first- and third-party chainrings.

For riders who want to use the brand’s Q Ring oval chainrings, Rotor says its Rotor Power app can be used alongside the INspider ROAD to determine the optimal position for their pedalling style.

Rotor says this BCD makes it best suited for road, gravel and time trial/triathlon bikes, with its INspider MTB power meter designed for mountain bikes.

The INspider ROAD is powered by an internal, rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which Rotor claims will last for up to 350 hours of riding time – a significant increase compared to the 200 hours the previous version promised.

As with practically all modern power meters, the INspider ROAD can transmit data via ANT+ or Bluetooth. Rotor says the INspider ROAD also transmits advanced power meter metrics, such as pedalling dynamics, to compatible Garmin bike computers.

The brand adds that it's waterproof to an IP67 standard.

Available now, the Rotor INspider ROAD power meter costs €599 / £503.16.
