As we all know, jazzy colours and imitating the pros makes you go even faster on the bike, so you can imagine our excitement when Bianchi recently announced that it was releasing a limited edition, retro-tastic, Pantani inspired run of the Specialissima — the brand's super light, Countervail-infused climbing bike that took top marks in our Superbike of the Year test last year.
Bianchi decided to release the bikes in honour of the 20th anniversary of Marco Pantani’s Giro-Tour double win next year — a feat only achieved by seven other riders — by recreating the iconic celeste-yellow fade paint job featured on the MegaPro XC that ‘il Pirata’ rode to victory back in 1998.
The bike is built around a Campagnolo Super Record mechanical groupset, Bora Ultra 35 tubs and a colour matched FSA K-Force cockpit.
No pricing or availability information is available yet for the limited edition bike, but we think it’s a safe bet that it’ll cost roughly £lots.
Are there any other classic colour schemes you’d like to see recreated in today’s? Or are you a fan of the ‘classic’ austere black steed? If so, keep it to yourself. For the funkier readers, please share your classic bikes in the comments below and remember you can add photos.
