Rebecca Romero has confirmed she is targeting the World Time Trial Championships and says the Commonwealth Games and London Olympics are also in her sights.
The Olympic and former world cycling champion has switched from track to road cycling after her individual pursuit event was dropped from the Olympic Games for 2012.
Romero spoke out as organisers of this summer's London-Paris 2010, which she will be taking part in, announced that Specialized would be the event’s official bicycle partner for the second year running.
She said: “The L2P is part of my preparation for the World Time Trial Championships in Melbourne in September. It’s something to train for and a good marker at the end of June. The Commonwealth Games in Delhi are another opportunity; I could be there. The only individual event left for me is the time trial. The idea is to have a go and see if it’s feasible.”
Romero won gold in the 3km individual pursuit at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and the 3km individual pursuit world title in the same year. She is the only British woman and one of only two women in the world to win summer Olympic medals in two different sports, having won a silver medal in rowing at the Athens Olympics in the quad sculls.
“I’d like to be successful in the Olympic time trial in London in 2012," she said. "That’s the ideal target and dream but I’m still in the initial stages of seeing if it’s possible."
Other riders confirmed for this year's L2P include Paris-Roubaix winner Magnus Backstedt and former professional football players Geoff Thomas – who will lead a team of 25 Geoff Thomas Foundation riders raising money for leukaemia patients – and John Salako.
