Rapha has launched a new winter jacket, just in time for the weather in the northern hemisphere to turn grotty. The Classic Winter Gore-Tex jacket updates Rapha’s previous Classic Winter jacket with new features and a new Gore-Tex fabric.
This is a jacket for winter road riding when it’s generally murky outside, rather than a completely waterproof jacket. It uses Gore’s mid-weight, three-layer Infinium Windstopper fabric, which is said to be windproof, water-resistant and breathable, to keep the elements at bay and you comfortably warm inside.
Rapha says the fit allows you to layer up underneath, with space for a baselayer and a long-sleeve jersey for added warmth in cold weather. To keep draughts out, there are elastic storm cuffs, a drawcord at the hem and a high collar.
If you do get too warm, Rapha has included a pair of chest vents with waterproof zips to increase airflow.
You can stash a gel or your keys away inside the jacket, to add extra carrying capacity to the two rear pockets, which are made larger so you can carry more stuff and get at it more easily when wearing gloves.
In terms of visibility, you’ll find reflective trim on the shoulders and a wide reflective strip on the central rear pocket, as well as a reflective band on the left arm.
There’s a women’s version available, too. This has a single side-front pocket, rather than the two chest pockets on the men’s style. There’s also a two-way zip for ventilation, in place of the single opening zip in the men’s jacket.
The men’s jacket comes in black, brown or orange, while the women’s options are orange or navy.
The new Classic Winter Gore-Tex jacket is available now on Rapha’s site, priced at £270 / €320 / $370 / AUD$465.
