Pirelli has launched the Cinturato Gravel S, a gravel tyre designed for “the softest and most challenging terrain”.

Pirelli says the sculpted tread pattern of the Gravel S was developed by the brand’s engineers to better tackle “technical and rough” gravel trails, “where grip and safety are the top priority, without neglecting easy handling and grip on the road”.

The brand already has the Cinturato Gravel H for hardpack conditions, Gravel M for mixed terrain and Gravel RC for racing in its gravel tyre arsenal.

Like all the other tyres in the gravel range, the Cinturato Gravel S uses Pirelli’s SpeedGRIP compound and is tubeless-ready.

The SpeedGRIP compound is a proprietary rubber that Pirelli claims “allows for best performance and energy management with less effort whether riding on tarmac, gravel or more aggressive terrain”. It is also said to retain the same durability as the SmartGRIP compound Pirelli uses on its mountain bike tyres.

The Gravel S uses a 60 TPI nylon casing and Pirelli’s TechWALL Gravel protective belt. This is claimed to run from bead to bead and protect against cuts without adding excessive rolling resistance.

The tyre is available in 700 x 40 and 700 x 45mm widths and is available in both black and ‘Classic’ sidewalls.

The 40mm black tyre is to be the lightest in the range, at a claimed weight of 540g, and the heaviest tyre is said to be the 45mm ‘Classic’ variant at 600g.

The tyres will retail from £57.99 / €66.90 / $82.90 / AU$116.90 and are available now.
