Pearl Izumi states that its Speed Shop is "an experimental skunk works division tasked with one, clear directive: go faster."

It claims to work with elite athletes to distinguish problems and seek out opportunities with the goal of "identifying what's next before anyone else even recognizes it." The resulting products are claimed to be singularly focused on aerodynamics and speed.

Fastest at the Tour de France

Worn in the Tour de France and to consecutive Team Time Trial World Championships, the Pursuit / BLACK Mach 5 Speedsuit was worn to record the fastest TT in Tour history.

To bolster those go-fast records, Pearl Izumi contends an 8% reduction in aerodynamic drag when compared to a fitted jersey.
