Oakley has reintroduced its iconic Sub Zero glasses, which originally debuted in 1992.
The glasses were in production until 1995 before being discontinued, although the frame and design have earned a cult status among fans of the brand.
A futuristic design in 1992, the glasses have been updated with Oakley’s modern optical technologies, featured in the brand’s best sunglasses.
The Sub Zeros have been updated with the brand’s tried-and-tested Prizm Lens Technology, as well as a unique shield lens design. The glasses feature the brand’s signature ‘Unobtainium’ nose pad and ear socks that are claimed to provide a no-slip grip.
This re-release exists as part of Oakley’s MUZM collection, which the brand describes as “a unique curation of iconic styles that are re-released with new interpretations and infused with today’s technology”.
The Sub Zeros have been touted as the first in a collection, with the brand hinting there are more retro re-releases on the horizon.

New colour choices for Kato
Oakley has also announced new colour options for the Kato, which launched in May 2021. The Kato also features a futuristic design, with a mask-like frameless lens design that wraps around your nose.
The sunglasses will now be available in three new combinations, all of which feature Prizm Lens Technology.
For road cycling, the Kato is now available with a Grey Smoke frame and Prizm Road lens. Off-road, Oakley has launched a Kato with a Polished Black / Slate frame and Prizm Trail lens.
Compared to the Prizm Road lens, which heightens the greys of the tarmac and blue skies, the Trail lens highlights greens and browns for optimal visibility off-road.
There is a third Kato option with a Prizm lens optimised for golf.
A Matthieu van der Poel edition of the Sutro
Oakley has also quietly launched a ‘Signature Series’ edition of its Sutro sunglasses in celebration of pro rider extraordinaire Matthieu van der Poel.
The Dutch rider has donned Oakley glasses in his road, cyclocross and mountain bike races.
The signature sunglasses feature a Prizm Road Jade lens in a Matte Poseidon Gloss Splatter frame with a custom Oakley icon. They retail for £169 and are available to purchase now from the Oakley store.
More colours and no vent option for the Sutro Lite Sweep
The Sutro Lite Sweep platform debuted in February in three colours and featured lenses with vents at the brow. They were worn to victory by van der Poel earlier in 2022 at the Tour of Flanders.
The Sutros feature optimised coverage and an extended field-of-view, while making a bold statement aesthetically. The frame is constructed from Oakley’s O-Matter material, and moulded ear socks on the arms of the frame are designed to help keep them locked in place.
Oakley says it will have lenses available separately down the line too, because they're interchangeable in case you’d like to swap between a vented and non-vented lens.
