Giro has built a reputation primarily for producing some of the best road helmets and mountain bike helmets.
So it might seem something of a departure for the Californian manufacturer to create a helmet aimed squarely at commuters.
The new Giro Ethos MIPS on display at Eurobike 2022 brings plenty of performance features and technology to a helmet designed for commuting and urban riding. This includes optimised vent placement, internal channels to help with cooling and MIPS safety technology.
That's not all the Ethos brings, however. It also includes integrated lighting, with four light modes controlled wirelessly by a bar-mounted Bluetooth remote.
Run times vary depending on mode, but Giro claims 11 hours on low blink mode (25 lumens front and 15 rear), 7.5 hours in high-blink (45l front, 30l rear) and in low solid mode 5.5 hours (25/10 lumens). On high power and solid, Giro says it’ll run for 2.5 hours. The helmet recharges from any Micro USB-C source.
The on-bar remote also has indicator/turn signal switches, which change the rear left and right lights to amber and flashing mode to indicate you're turning.
The visibility features don’t end there, with both reflective decals on the hardshell and a woven reflective strip running through the helmet straps.
Styling-wise, the Ethos is intended to mix elements of urban and sport design. The standard Ethos has a subtle TPU soft rubber brim around the front. There is also a version of the Ethos with a shield visor.
According to Giro, the Ethos MIPS is priced at $250 and the Ethos MIPS Shield $270. Global pricing is to be confirmed.
