Tomorrow, 4 September, will see tens of thousands of new cyclists hop onto two wheels for Cyclescheme’s second National Cycle to Work Day.
Last year’s inaugural event saw Britons cycle a collective 256,932 miles to work, saving 6,821,17kg of CO2 and burning over 12 million calories.
Paralympic cycling star Dame Sarah Storey – winner of an incredible 11 gold medals over six Paralympic Games across two sports – will be joining in with the event, inspiring people of all abilities to leave the car at home.
Scores of UK employers will also be putting on events and providing free breakfasts to cycling staff in a bid to stage Britain’s ‘Biggest Bike Breakfast’, while hundreds of independent bike shops will be offering free bike health checks.
Those who pledge to take part on the day via the Cycle to Work Day website will also be entered into a prize draw to win a whole host of prizes, including three Foffa bikes collectively worth £1,235.
The event is championed by Cycle to Work scheme provider Cyclescheme. Director Daniel Gillborn, said: “Cycle to Work Day is our way of getting everyone together to celebrate cycle commuting. From our clients and their employees through to the independent retailers we partner with, the day is a fantastic opportunity for people to give cycling a go.”
