Met says the new Bluegrass Rogue Core MIPS mountain bike helmet is designed for the speed of its pro riders, with a design suitable for enduro, trail and e-MTB use.

The helmet includes additional protection at the back of the head and the temples, the most sensitive areas of the head, according to Met.

Met says it’s also designed the visor to be flexible and to deform in the event of a crash to reduce rotational forces on the neck. You can push back the visor to rest your goggles on the front of the helmet when you’re not using them.

The MIPS-C2 protection layer in the new helmet is designed to reduce rotational forces on the head in the event of a crash too, with 10mm to 15mm of slip movement relative to the helmet shell.

There’s also a new retention system in the Rogue Core, which Met calls Safe-T. It includes the same 360-degree head belt that Met uses on its latest Rivale road helmet.

The anchors for the straps are embedded in the helmet shell and they close with a magnetic buckle, designed for easy use when wearing gloves.

The Rogue Core has 16 vents for airflow over the head, including two under the visor to help avoid misting of mountain bike sunglasses or goggles, and to help keep the pad over the forehead dry.

There’s a rim at the Rogue Core’s rear to keep a goggle strap in place and space at the sides for sunglass arms, while the vents in the visor are designed to retain sunglasses securely when not worn.

Other safety features include rear reflectives. The helmet is ponytail compatible and comes complete with a soft storage bag. The polycarbonate outer shell fully encloses the EPS body to up durability and prevent gouging.

Like all Met’s helmets, you can buy a set of DualGel front pads for added comfort and sweat absorption.

As well as the Bluegrass Rogue Core MIPS helmet, Met has also released a non-MIPS version of the design, the standard Bluegrass Rogue. That drops the price of the helmet by £40.

Availability of both the MIPS and non-MIPS helmets is slated from early October 2020.
