Austria’s Bikepark Leogang has been chosen as the venue for the 2012 UCI Mountain Bike & Trials World Championships, which will run from 29 August to 9 September.
The resort successfully hosted its first Mountain Bike World Cup stage this year. Continuous development of the trails plus the success of events like the Out of Bounds festival convinced the UCI that it was a good choice for the Worlds.
Pat McQuaid, president of the UCI, said: “The World Cup, which for the first time this season took place in Leogang, received great feedback from all sides and I’m truly confident that the Worlds will be extremely successful too.”
A new cross-country course will be built in preparation for next year’s event, which will be available for the public to ride once the professionals have left.
Peter Donabauer, CEO of Saalfelden Leogang WM GmbH, said: “Leogang already is Austria’s hot spot in the mountain bike downhill and freeride segment. We’ll welcome the athletes from all over the world with open arms and make sure they feel right at home with us!”
