Time is running out if you want a chance to ride in the inaugural RideLondon-Surrey100 sportive - part of the RideLondon festival of cycling that's happening on 3-4 August 2013.

The 100 mile challenge, which costs £48 to enter, will be a modified version of the Olympic Road Race course through central London via Richmond Park out to the Surrey Hills.

You have until 23:59 on Friday 4 January to put your name down for the ballot. Over 50,000 have already done so but there are 'only' 20,000 spots available. If you do miss out on the draw, you may get a spot by applying to ride for a charity of your choice. Over 300 charities have signed up to participate in RideLondon-Surrey 100.

If you just want to have a leisurely ride then the RideLondon Freecycle (which is free) might be for you. It will cater for up to 50,000 people with an 8 mile closed road loop around central London.

For the racing types, there's the RideLondon Grand Prix, an invitational city centre criterium (circuit race) featuring women's elite, hand cycling and youth racing, and the RideLondon-Surrey Classic, an international elite men's road race that will follow part of the Olympic Road Race route.

RideLondon is being managed by the London & Surrey Cycling Partnership - a joint venture between the organisers of the London Marathon and The Tour of Britain - and is expected to make a big impact in the capital later this year.
