British television broadcaster ITV has extended its rights to air live coverage and highlights of the Tour de France.
ITV4 will continue to host the coverage, securing the future of the world’s biggest cycling race on free-to-air British television until at least 2015. The deal, agreed today with Tour organiser ASO, will see ITV continue to broadcast live daily coverage throughout the three-week race, along with highlights each evening. They will also expand digital and online coverage, beginning this summer.
Niall Sloane, ITV’s Controller of Sport said: “ITV’s coverage of the Tour de France has a terrific reputation with viewers and sports fans and I’m delighted that, in one of the most exciting periods for British cycling, we have secured coverage on ITV4 until 2015.”
