Since Decathlon dropped its B’Twin label last year, we've seen it launch its comfort-focused Triban range. Following the Triban’s success, the French brand has set its sights on the performance road sector with the Van Rysel — a name that translates to ‘from Lille’ and pays homage to the company’s roots.
Nicolas Pierron, Van Rysel brand director, was delighted to showcase the new brand at the Velofollies Cycling Expo in Kortrijk, Belgium earlier this month. He says the company worked alongside retired pro Jean-Christophe Péraud and a passionate team to build the brand from the ground up.
“Their experience and passion helped us to create products which meet the requirements of the pros but are accessible for our customers”, said Pierron. With Lille being a cycling haven for many, he explained that it made sense to move production there from Portugal.
The Van Rysel range is aimed at performance road cyclists, retaining the award-winning Ultra frame and getting a new coat of paint. It will also include products never stocked at Decathlon before, such as skin suits and aero helmets. Each frame will be marked with the lion of Flanders for a truly European finishing touch.
The Van Rysel brand will launch on the Decathlon website in March 2019.
Decathlon Van Rysel range overview
The Van Rysel range will comprise two aluminium models at Shimano 105 and Ultegra level, and five carbon models available with Shimano 105, Ultegra, Dura-Ace and Ultegra Di2, while the fifth features a full Campagnolo Potenza groupset.
