GoPro will give you up to $100 for your old Hero

Trade-up program gives owners a discount on a new Hero 5 Black or Session

Action camera manufacturer GoPro will buy back old GoPro cameras and give owners a credit toward the purchase of a new Hero 5 Black or Session, the company just announced.

This offer applies to the purchase of a GoPro Hero 5 Black as well as the more compact Hero 5 Session. In exchange for returning your older model, owners will be given a $100 credit toward the purchase of a Hero 5 Black or $50 toward buying a Hero 5 Session.

How the GoPro Trade-Up Program works

GoPro has set up a dedicated trade-up website. Buyers can select which model they want, place their order and receive a shipping label for their old camera. GoPro will ship the new model at the discounted price once it has received the old camera.

Don’t worry about what condition your late-model GoPro is in. “Cameras can be in any condition – working or not – to be eligible for the Trade-Up Program," the site reads. "Cameras can be dead, missing components or even melted in a fire, and we will take them!”

Do be sure to remove the memory card before shipping your old GoPro off to be recycled.

According to GoPro, this is a limited time offer, however no exact expiration date has been set at this time.

Alternatively, you could wait for the Hero 6, which is set to be released later this year and is likely to bring incremental upgrades.
