Giro has recalled Merit helmets sold in Australia, New Zealand, the United States of America and Canada and manufactured prior to January 2023. The brand says the helmet strap may detach from the helmet when “pulled with relatively little force, posing a risk of injury to the user in a crash”.
Giro says it does not know if the fault has caused any injuries.
The brand says Merit helmets have the 'Merit' model name printed on the rear, right-hand side and a sticker with 'Merit' written on it inside the helmet.
Owners in the affected areas should stop using Merit helmets immediately and contact Giro for a replacement. The brand says both men's and women's versions of the Merit may have the defect.
Giro adds the recall is in cooperation with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The full recall notice runs below.
