Italy's Giordana has been making high-end bike clothing for more than 35 years, and at Interbike this year the brand talked us though its latest collection of cycling jackets.
Two years ago the family-owned business moved into a new factory with the aim of having more control over the products that it designs and manufactures, and this year’s summer line was the first to benefit from the new strategy. The company’s new range, which includes winter and custom collections, is the latest kit to come out of the new facility.
Giordana Sosta collection
The Sosta Collection is an all-new clothing line for the brand, and its Sosta jacket has been designed for urban and commuter riders. The more casual and herringbone look still packs in technical details and includes a DWR water repellant treatment, magnetic closure for easy access to the zip, as well as concealed cargo pockets that zip up for discreet storage. The men’s jacket is available in green and black, and both have reflective detailing that includes a reflective Giordana logo on the rear. This uses something called 'pixel reflective', which is screen printed using glass beads and according to Giordana is very bright. The women’s jacket is available in a houndstooth pattern, and long sleeve jerseys, vests and bib tights are also available. Pricing TBC.
Giordana AV Range
The AV ('Acqua Vento') extreme jacket is suitable for riding in the rain and wind, featuring Polartec Alpha material on the inside, as well as a three layer eVent membrane. The jacket is said to be breathable, windproof and water resistant. Pricing TBC.
If you’re looking for something a little lighter weight, Giordana has the AV 100, which is the first in a line of jackets that come in warmer 200 and 300 variants — short and long sleeve versions are available in the 100 and 200 jackets. The jacket is fully waterproof and offers plenty of reflectivity too, like the Sosta jacket. Pricing TBC.
Giordana custom kit
The custom collection continues for 2017, and the new custom jersey features lightweight microfibre fabric on the front and a breathable material on the back. The jersey has only one seam, with the panel running from the front to the back, which Giordana says offers plenty of freedom for clubs to design team kit and add their own logos.
Colour options are offered on the jersey and bib shorts, and the pockets on the rear of the jersey now include a turn-over feature to prevent smaller items falling out — there’s a zipper pocket too.
The bib shorts have been designed with two densities in the straps, with less density across the shoulders to keep the straps in place and more at the bottom for getting up and out of the saddle and back again comfortably.
Cirro and Cirro-S chamois options also come with the bib shorts. Pricing TBC.
