Formula One driver Mark Webber has announced the date for his 97-mile Ride to the Horns Sportive in the Chilterns – 4 July 2010.
Currently sitting at the top f the F1 rankings, the Red Bull driver is a keen cyclist who took part in last year’s Cycling Plus Sportive at BikeRadar Live. He'll be riding once again in the Chilterns.
“I use the bike in training, not only for fitness but because it gives me the chance to get away from all the other day-to-day business,” said Mark. “The quiet roads around Mentmore provide the perfect mix of terrain in beautiful countryside, so I thought why not show others what it’s like and raise some money for good causes in the process.”
The sportive starts and finishes at The Stag restaurant in Mentmore, near Leighton Buzzard. It takes in some of the roads used in the Tour of Britain and Archer Grand Prix, as well as the village of Brill, before returning to the Chiltern climbs of Whiteleaf, the Crong, Dunsmore and the Hale, which precede Ivinghoe Beacon and the final climb up to Whipsnade and Dunstable Downs.
There’ll also be a shorter Stag Ride (two laps of a 25-mile circuit) plus a seven-mile family route on quiet roads suitable for all abilities. Entries are restricted to 400. For more information, go to www.wheelsinwheelscc.com .
